Burnage parkrun - Course Review |

Met up with a work friend to have a first go at this one. Thought I'd arrived relatively early (08.54) but needed to use the facilities at the Rugby Club so just made my way down the track to the Mersey as Run Director Melanie said they were just waiting for a few stragglers - must have seen me coming? First part of the course is a short out and back along the Mersey path before you return to the start/ finish area for a two-lap loop of the course. Quite a pleasant route taking a mixture of tarmac path and gravel. I was worried there might be a fair amount of mud after the rains but actually it was generally firm throughout. The first part of the main loop follows the River Mersey up stream before a fairly sharp left turn takes you over the nature park before you head back towards the Rugby. There's then a short 'scratty' section between a couple of fences before the generally flat trail follows a pleasant wooded path behind the club - lots of bird song on a mild March morning. There's then a flight of steps to negotiate before the path bears left back to the river for a second loop. Nice event, this one. Found it more shelter and easier to run on than Sale Waterpark but it's a similar feel on the section beside the water. Slower than Stretford (say) due to a couple of dead turns and short inclines that took off a bit of pace. Slower than I wanted to be here, but some progress at least. Really friendly crowd here. Runners were encouraged to support the rugby club selling drinks and breakfast, as they'd had to repair flood damage and they appreciated the mutual support to and from the local parkrun community. Pram-friendly: The steps (twice) are a problem, might want to check beforehand. WTW: I used Hoka all terrains, roads would be fine but could be muddy PB potential: 8.5/10 Overall course satisfaction: 7.5/10 |
Worden junior parkrun 6th March 2022 |

Wow, what a beautiful morning for running. The storms of previous weeks were long gone, which encouraged 89 runners. Kath Townsend (Run Director) took charge of the event but was well supported by almost thirty volunteers. Thank you for your support. Welcome to ten first-timers at the park: Noah Douglas, Connor Murray, Austin Murray, Lottie Southworth, Lauren Arpino, Archie Finch, Archie Southworth, Amelie Holden, Ariella Douglas and Phoebe Karran. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and we look forward to seeing you again soon. First back was regular Ryley Holden (Salford Harriers and AC) in a PB time of 08:05, followed closely by Ben Maine (Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club). The first girl back was Olivia Smalley followed by Sophie Maine. Running conditions must have been perfect because one-third of the runners recorded PBs. These included Ryley Holden, Ollie Scully, Billy Rowbottom, William Jenner, Thomas O’Reilly, Euan Wilson, Noah Myers, Frankie Moffat, Olivia Smalley, Poppy Cooper, Esmai Ordish, Fred Shattock, Max Salisbury, Seth Handscombe, Eva Karran, Ben Holland, Philip Gkikas, Ivy Gilmour, Lucy Makin, Benjamin Carr, Oscar Myers, George Garland, Audrey Garland, Phoebe Low, Henry Hardman, James Makin, Amelie Holden, Beatrice Varley and Eleanor Riley. There was a great turnout of organisers and helpers dressed in purple to celebrate International Women's Day. Thanks to everyone who donated clothing and other items to the appeal for Ukraine. |
