Junior Sports Hall Athletics
A Brief Introduction/Information
Sports hall athletics is a fun way of enjoying junior styled track and field events in a warm and safe environment during the winter months.
The club enters under the Lancashire Sports hall series, which holds 3 meeting, in November / January and February, usually held at Stanley Park Leisure Centre. At this meeting the top athletic clubs in the region compete together, in order to test all the junior athletes against each other in a competitive environment. Although competitive, the meetings are all about having fun, being with friends and fellow juniors, and trying to get all the athletes to perform to the best of their abilities. The best athletes during the meetings are often selected and invited to represent Lancashire at County level in the North West Sports hall series. There are also awards for the best male and female athletes for each age category for each meeting.
Points are awarded for in each event that takes place in the meeting. 10 points for 1st place, 8 for second, and so on and so forth. During the meeting, the organisers will calculate the points and positions for each athlete, which are then added up to find the overall athlete of the meeting for each age group / sex, and at the end of the meeting, the totals awarded (and ranking) to each athletic club represented.
All juniors must be a minimum of 8 years old on the day of the meeting. The categories that can be
competed in are...
• U11 Boys / Girls
• U13 Boys / Girls
• U15 Boys / Girls
To determine what age group you can compete in, you must take the age of the individual on 31st August, in the year of the first meeting. If in doubt please ask the Sports hall coordinator.
Events
Each junior is invited to select a maximum of 4 events at any one meeting. At the Sports Hall coordinator’s discretion, if there are enough representatives, juniors maybe selected for a team relay that is run at the end of the meeting.
There are different events for each age category, some of which have limited entry, so a club can only have so many entries for a particular / popular event. There are also further limits on U11’s so that they have to select a variety of different events.
