Interclub 2015

Overview

Interclub road races are simple ... just turn up at the start and run.

Race distances tend to be 4 to 5 miles. Club kit must be worn. There is no pre-race registration but at the end of the race you will be given a card with your race position on it which you need to complete and place in the Chorley box (or Guest box if you've not yet joined). Races are very friendly, social affairs, with a great turnout from all clubs and a very wide variety of abilities. If you have never raced before, there are no better races that these for getting a no-pressure taster.

The 4th Inter-Club race of the summer at Thornton Clevelys(5) was not as good a result for Chorley as hoped with the best being 4th vet team & 5th V50s.  On the hottest day of the year todate 14 Chorley athletes set off down the Blackpool prom without the usual sea breeze to cool them but merely a warm dust instead with Rob Walsh(30th) first back from David Parkinson(40th), Mark Ellithorn(42nd), Phil Iddon(45th) & Warren Crook(46th).  Bill Beckett(62nd) worked hard to keep ahead of Paul Wareing(74th), Jackie Redmayne(98th) & Brendan Whyatt(116th).  Steve Baker back from injury lead Ted Orrell(154th & 1st V75) before Mike Wilson(159th).  Steven Wilde(195th) was well in front of Mike Coppin(252nd).

Chorley athletes did not fare as well as hoped due to reduced numbers in the Wesham Inter-Club road race at BNFL(4.5) where Warren Crook(45th) was our main man before a tired Martin Quinn(65th), Jonathon Burgess(76th), Laura Murphy(80th), Edward Gilbertson(94th) & Paul Wareing(105th).  Michael Wilson(150th) just beat our 75 year olds Ted Orrell(151st) & John Swift(157th) behind whom were Steven Wilde(168th), a struggling Stephen Baker(171st), Janet Barrow(175th) & Phil McCullagh(177th).  Christine Sweatman(198th) came next before Les Paul(230th) & Mike Coppin(247th).  Our highest team position was 5th in the V60s with individually Ted & John 1st & 2nd V75s, Christine 1st F55, Laura 2nd F40, Mike 3rd V70 & Janet 4th F40.
