Abbey Village and Chorley Athletic and Triathlon's 27th running of the Roddlesworth Roller and Daffodil Doddle races was held on a cold, wet day in March. But, this did not deter more than 400 entrants who greeted the adverse conditions with a smile.

Horwich's Michael Clayton took first place, but Chorley's Julian Goudge was not far behind in 5th. The top 30 also included Chorley runners, Jonathan Man, Martin Kershaw, Michael Hancock, Thomas Kershaw and Ian Leigh. Paul Bass just beta 2nd female Josie Hull home, followed closely by Bill Beckett, Andrew Clough and Darren Bowles. A steady stream of athletes was led home by Mick McGeown and Richard Farron, followed by Michael Hendry, David Miller, Rick Cordwell, Katie Jones, Shona Taylor, Daniel Bolton, Lisa Bolton, Dave North, Janet Barrow, Michael Wilson, Phil McCullagh, Les Paul, Eddie Murray and sweeper Paul Jackson. Chorley won the Ladies team prize, and were second in the Male and Male Vet Team competitions.

Unattached Nathan Townsend led home the field in his last year running the Daffodil Doddle. First back for a 40+ Chorley team were Jacob Hughes and Daniel Lilley in 6th and 7th, followed closely by Olivia Leigh who just missed first female by 1 second, and Jack Hughes. Then came Charlotte Lavin, Owen Kellett, Harry Ainscough, Lucy Goldthorpe, Emily Warren, Georgina Ainscough, Oliver Platt, Finlay Hughes, Blythe Cordwell, Joseph Chadwick, Sam Price and Alice Singleton. Also in the top half of the field were Lauren Prince, Isobelle Farron, Shauna Marrow, Amber and Erin Boardman, Megan Whalley, Martha Singleton, Louisa Stewart, Lara and Alice Goudge and Annabel Stewart. The came Chloe Molyneux, Ellie Hancock, Amelia Bowles, Alex Glew, Kate Doughty, Holly Nicholson, Layla Alton, Eloise Beattie, Katie Riley, Liam Dawber, Bengy Glew, Megan Ashworth, Abbey Riley, Christian Stewart, Olivia Nicholson and last but not least 5 year old Joseph Glew. St Laurences and Parklands picked up first primary and secondary school teams, with Horwich RMI being the first club team. First Abbey Village boy was Ben Rawlinson, and Lilly Smith was first girl.

The school and organisers would like to thank all runners, United Utilities, Tony Bolton, Schofield Family Results and especially the myriad of helpers on the day that made the day possible, safe and enjoyable.
