Calum cruises home at Bolton

The sun shone on the six runners who represented Chorley at the lung-busting Central Lancashire 5K race in Bolton this morning.

The Bolton fixture heralded the start of this year’s Central Lancs Grand-Prix programme of road and trail races that will see Chorley compete with athletics clubs drawn from around Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

Young Calum Cant made an impressive return to racing in the black, white and red stripes of Chorley and led the team from start to finish, just dipping under the 18 minute-mark with an excellent 24th position overall (6th under 20, 17:55).

Two Chorley stalwarts followed in hot pursuit as a “battle of the Pauls” saw Paul Wareing (77, 19:53) narrowly outpace Paul Jackson (83, 20:09) who returned to form with a superb race. Next came Michael Hendry with a solid run to finish 114th (21:04).

Anna Maria Crabtree (150, 22:55) then secured a fourth-placed category finish, just ahead of daughter Ella (166, 23:28) who raced well to pick up the third female under 20’s spot.
