Once every twenty years...

Chorley athletes produced some excellent results on a wet and windy day through the streets of Preston while competing in the Guild marathon and half-marathon road race events.

Nicola Raby led the way on the full distance, with an excellent 3:34:13, 202nd place and 15th lady. Robin Long followed behind (245) then Gary Walmsley (263) Joseph Allman (319) and Phil McCullagh (804).

Congratulations also to Chorley runner Mark Bond who completed his first marathon raising money for Diabetes UK, in 3:58:44.

In the shorter half marathon distance, Julian Goudge produced a vintage performance to finish 17th and 3rd V40 with a time of 1:23:00, with Jonathan Higson (1:24:27, 25th) chasing in hot pursuit.

Michael Hendry (266) was next back, followed by Jonathan Baron (320), Nicola Watson (309 and 9th F40), and Andy Lowe (553).

Veteran Chorley athlete Peter McDade made a very welcome return to the roads with a superb 1:51:29 time (583 and 7th V60). Rachael Gibson (891), Rachael Clarke (1215) and Vicki Brindle (1659) completed the Chorley line-up. Well done to all.

Thanks must go to the crowds of supporters who braved the cold and rain to cheer on the runners.
