Another fine day greeted the runners from Chorley at the first Mid Lancs. league cross country meeting in Burnley. The sun shone and the wind and rain stayed away so conditions were as near perfect as possible!

Again there was a good turn out in the under 11 girls and boys races from the club with Caitlin McCarrick and Ben Hughes continuing to place well in their respective races with Emily Hunter chasing down Caitlin. Freya Burton ran in her first race and follows in her mothers footsteps in competing in cross country for the club. A welcome return to racing for Glyn Denver and Adrian Fairhurst, both coming back to cross country after some time. The senior men had 3 teams in the race which shows the strength in depth of the club.

Once again Lynne Clough was in the top 10, finishing in 6th place, whilst Niki Rushton pushed Anna Maria Crabtree in a sprint at the end.

'The iconic Mid-Lancs XC race at Sefton Park, Liverpool undertaken within the McCain's UK Challenge which has us running with athletes from the whole of Britain including many internationalists happened in a window of good weather. Less of the Chorley juniors than usual appeared but Ben Hughes(13th), Scott Gouldthorpe(23rd), Jack Hughes(34th) and Henry Wilson(45th) got our U11s off to a great start followed by U13 Jack Wilson(29th). Only 3 ladies made the trip with Katie Minihan an excellent 10th in the U17s with Lynne Clough(18th) and Anna Maria Crabtree(59th) in the senior ladies. The senior men were lead home by their youngsters in Adam Sciacca(20th), brother Ryan(58th) pressed by Dave Biddulph(61st). Phil Iddon(85th) ran well ahead of Paul Wareing(98th) and Jonathan Burgess(105th). A grouping of Dave Williams(125th), Simon Townsend(136th), Paul Jackson(149th) and long time absentee Paul Bass(161st) with Marco Sciacca(177th) hanging-on were next. Chorley runners then packed densely with Henry Minorczyk(194th), Barry Chester(199th), Phil McCullagh(201st), Tom Hilton(204th), Mike Coppin(205th) & Eddie Murray(206th). Chorley teams were overall 10th & 22nd, the V40s 10th, 21st & 23rd, the V50s 14th & 17th and the vet 60s 2nd. Best individual positions were Adam Sciacca and Lynne Clough as 3rd junior & L35 with Ryan Sciacca & Anna Maria 5th junior & L45.

Deep glutinous mud was the order of the day at Hyndburn in the latest Mid-Lancs XC event which was extraordinarily tiring combined with an icy wind when out of the woods. Chorley's successful U11 Lancashire team competitors turned out to continue their collective business with again both collecting 3rd team places. Emily Hunter(12th) reversed last weeks position on Caitlin McCarrick(14th) with Harriet Quinn(29th), Isabelle Bretherton(31st) taking her sister Maddison(33rd) and in a solid 39th Freya Burton. In the boys Ben Hughes(7th) again excelled with Scott Gouldthorpe(15th) continuing to keep his vest just in front of Luke Hunter(16th), Jack Hughes(27th) and good support runs from Henry Wilson(40th) & Martin Rimmer(42nd). In the U13s, U15s & U17s respectfully Jack Wilson(19th), Ryan McCracken(33rd), Emma Plant(13th) and Byron Baker(20th) all ran well without any team support. The ladies also only turned out one athlete with Lynne Clough coming 10th. Michael Chalfont(46th) led home the seniors with good runs from Dave Biddulph(70th) & Bill Beckett(102nd) supporting before a phalange of Paul Wareing(121st), Dave Kershaw(123rd) with a particularly good race, Phil Iddon(128th), Simon Townsend(148th) and Paul Bass(160th). Henry Minorczyk(176th) had his battle with Stephen Baker(177th) with Barry Chester(186th) on the charge at the end. Steve Thomas(207th) kept ahead of Chorley's fighting tail of Paul Jackson(215th), Phil McCullagh(216th), Eddie Murray(219th), Les Paul(220th), Tom Hilton(222nd) & Mike Coppin(223rd). Chorley's 10th team place(also 22nd & 24th) keeps them at the top of their division, and the V40s team goes to 2nd position from their 6th place(also 18th, 25th & 27th), the V50s were 11th, 16th & 17th teams with the Vet60s maintaining their overall 2nd place. Highest individual positions were Lynne Clough's 5th vet and Ben Hughes 7th U11 place.

Fewer juniors than usual ran in the final Mid Lancs Cross Country at Beacon Park. Some injuries, illnesses and other activities prevented the usual strong teams taking part. This didn't prevent Chorley having some great results at the event, with Caitlyn McCarrick leading the girls U11 team home in 12th place, with Kasi Holden & Emily Hunter not far behind in 17th and 18th place. Maddison Bretherton had a good run and came home 28th, supported closely by Amelia Bowles in 35th place in her second event. The U11 boys were led home by the improving Scott Gouldthorpe in 10th place, with PJ Holden in 18th. The team was completed by Joe Bowles (20th), Henry Wilson (21st) and Jack Hughes (22nd) who worked well and supported each other on what seemed like a long course with it's tough uphill section.

Jack Wilson (U13) had another great run to finish 15th, with new runner Alisha Ibitoye (U13) coming in 22nd in the girls race. Ryan McCracken (U15) and Byron Baker (U17) had good runs in their first season of cross country.

The Chorley Juniors have done well within the Mid Lancs series with U11 Caitlyn McCarrick & Emily Hunter taking 8th & 9th place overall, with Maddison Bretherton taking 17th place in the series. Ben Hughes (U11) was 10th overall in boys event, with Scott Gouldthorpe 12th and 9 year old Jack Hughes taking 15th place and Henry Wilson 18th in the series. Jack Wilson's (U13) consistency earnt him 16th place in the series. Emma Plant (U17) gained 9th place in the series.
