Park Series 2012
6th July 2012
The slashing rain & thunderous skies warned off athletes for the final 2012 Chorley Park Series race although it relented more-or-less during the race but by that time had made a certainty of small fields. Of those brave enough to venture forth it was marvellous to watch two Chorley lads racing for first place with young Adam Sciacca eventually just getting the better of Keith Johnston. David Watson of Preston Harriers was 3rd and the first vet. For the ladies another home win with Emma Perrin beating off the challenge of Janine Fallon(1st vet) of Darwen Dashers and 1st junior lady Leah Nelson-Verrechio of Chorley. The junior race was almost exclusively between Chorley and Clayton-le-Moors with Chorley having the first two in Fergus Tallon & Joseph Monk and Clayton 3rd & 4th with George Pier & William Bellard. George's sister Alice was the first girl.

The worst weather in 10 years of the Park Series races greeted us all on Friday such that it severely tested the waterproofing of all the marshalls and officials clothing and hosted the smallest fields of runners ever. However we are grateful to all those athletes who did brave the incessant rain and flooding with Gareth Booth of Horwich notching another win but closely pursued by home junior Adam Sciacca. The first female was Beckie Taylor of Blackburn before Chorley's Emma Perrin. Chorley's Rachael Clarke was the first female vet. Joseph Monk of Chorley again won the junior race in fine style with Chorley's Emma Plant being the first girl.

With organiser Terry Dickenson ill in hospital after another heart attack many Chorley Club personnel pitched in to help making the first Park Series race for 2012 a bit of a glory evening for the host Club and hopefully an auspicious start for the merged Clubs. The junior race was won by Fergus Tallon and the senior race by last minute entrant Luke Betts whose recent intense training enabled him to keep the power going to the end ahead of Gareth Booth(Horwich) who himself set a PB. Paul Bradshaw(Blackburn) was 3rd, Simon Brunton(Salford) 4th, Andrew Stubbs(Clayton) 5th with Chorley's Adam Sciacca 6th taking the 1st Jnr man prize. Elizabeth Greenwood(Blackburn) was the 1st girl in the junior race with Chorley ladies Emma Perrin & Laura Livesey reliving their former exploits by being 1st & 2nd in the senior race ahead of Sarah Sherratt(Wesham) 3rd with Chorley's Anya Townsend 4th and the 1st female junior. The juniors had a really good turnout of Chorley athletes in their race with Joseph Monk 4th(1st U15), Jack Wilson 10th(1st U12), Ben Hughes 12th, Scott Gouldthorpe 16th(1st U10), Emma Plant 17th(1st G14), Luke Hunter 21st, Cameron Chisholm 24th, George Norris 25th, Jon Linford 26th, Sam Tatlock 27th, Evie Barclay 28th, Fionnuala Hart 29th, Jack Hughes 30th(1st U9), Henry Wilson 33rd, Caitlin McCarrick 35th(1st G10), Dominic Gouldthorpe 36th, Katie Hebblethwaite 37th, Emily Hunter 38th(1st G9), Cai Smith 41st, Harry Barclay 42nd, Harrison Denver 43rd, Teddy Henry 44th, Ben Green 51st, Harry Collins 52nd, Lauren Prince 53rd(1st G8), Blythe Cordwell 56th(1st G6) & Elizabeth Baron 59th. The Chorley seniors also had a good turnout chasing the above prize winners with Michael Chalfont 12th, Mark Ellithorn 15th, Paul Wareing 20th(just getting under his 20min target), Jonathan Higson 23rd, Dan Edwards 32nd, Carl Holding 33rd, Michael Hendry 37th, Steven Wilde 44th, Phil McCullagh 49th, Rachael Clarke 52nd, Shelly Parkinson 53rd(1st FV50) & Sarah Heys 57th. Two race records were set by home athletes by Luke Betts at 16:42(best ever junior time by 6secs) and Blythe Cordwell at 9:19 chopping a huge 2:30 off the previous G6 best time. All of Chorley Club and many others wish Terry a speedy and good recovery.
Thanks to all runners, official and helpers.
